Kinross Gold has temporarily suspended milling operations at its Tasiast mine, in Mauritania, following a fire on Tuesday, the Canadian gold producer said Wednesday.

The fire, which occurred in the semi-autogenous grinding mill discharge area, has been fully extinguished, and no injuries were reported. Mining operations at the site continue as planned.

The company said it was investigating the cause of the incident and that it was assessing the extent of the damage. Kinross said it did not expect the event to impact on its production guidance for the operation, citing the availability of critical spare parts on site.

Tasiast is one of Kinross’s key assets, with the mine producing more than 600 000 oz of gold in 2024.
