Project Description
On August 14, 2024, the JRA terminated the contract with Step Up Engineering for the rehabilitation of Lilian Ngoyi street. 

The JRA is appointing a new contractor to undertake the remaining work on the project’s first phase, which includes:

  • the reconstruction of the 450 m of collapsed road and associated infrastructure sustained during a gas blast in July 2023;
  • construction of a new reinforced concrete tunnel;
  • reinstallation and relocation of stormwater and sewer pipes;
  • installation of lighting, detection and ventilation systems; and
  • the implementation of lateral support for structural stability.

The new contractor will also undertake Phase 2 of the project, inclusive of the road surface upgrades and sidewalks adjustment along the 1.8 km stretch.
