ASX-listed Macro Metals has entered into a joint venture (JV) with 100% Indigenous-owned company Nyapiri Holdings, establishing Nyapiri Macro Mining.

The partnership is set to provide a full suite of mining services, including raw construction materials, civil works, mining, load and haul services, as well as crushing and screening, all in alignment with traditional Indigenous knowledge and practices.

Nyapiri is owned and managed by Francisco Brown, a Ngarla and Kariyarra man with strong cultural ties to the land. The land covered by Macro's Goldsworthy West project and BHP's Mt Goldsworthy project forms part of the Ngarla People’s Native Title determination area, establishing a significant connection to the local Indigenous communities.

Brown brings extensive heritage and cultural knowledge to the venture, having previously served as heritage manager for the Wanparta Aboriginal Corporation. His involvement ensures that Nyapiri Macro Mining will integrate cultural safety and respect for Indigenous traditions throughout its operations.

Nyapiri Macro Mining is structured with Nyapiri Holdings holding 51% of the JV and Macro’s wholly owned subsidiary, Macro Mining Services (MMS), holding the remaining 49%. The company will serve as head contractor to mining companies operating on Ngarla and Kariyarra land, facilitating employment, training, and contracting opportunities for local Indigenous communities.

The JV aims to streamline the Indigenous engagement process by managing subcontracts and employment through a single local Indigenous entity, thus ensuring that operations are carried out in a culturally- and environmentally-respectful manner. Nyapiri Macro Mining will also offer rehabilitation services including land contouring, revegetation with native flora, and habitat restoration.

The JV is poised to offer its services to Tier 1 companies operating in the region, including BHP, Rio Tinto, De Grey, FMG, and others.

The partnership is already in discussions with multiple mining companies with projects on Ngarla and Kariyarra land, with a strategic base of operations in Port Hedland providing a competitive edge.
