Port of Maputo, Mozambique.

Project Owner/s
Matola Terminal Joint Venture (JV) comprising Grindrod and Vitol.

Project Description
The project will be completed in phases.

Phase 1 will fully mechanise Matola’s back-of-terminal area, increasing capacity from 8-million to 12-million tonnes a year and expanding the site from 40 800 m² to 157 760 m². 

Phase 2 will integrate the front- and back-of-terminal, adding new storage and loading infrastructure to ultimately handle up to

one-million tonnes a year.

Phase 1 is estimated at $40-million.

Planned Start/End Date
Phase 1 is expected to be completed in early 2027.

The official groundbreaking ceremony was conducted on November 17, 2025.

Phase 2 of the project is in planning.
