Project Description
Kinshasa, the most populous city in Africa, faces critical transport infrastructure challenges, aggravated by rapid population growth and inadequate development. The current transportation system meets less than half of the daily demand, according to the city’s urban transport masterplan.
The project aims to develop a mass transit system exceeding 300 km of railroad in Kinshasa.
The project will be undertaken in four phases, starting with the overhaul of a 25 km stretch from Kinshasa’s central station to N’Djili International Airport, completely upgrading the existing railway.
Phase 2 involves the 75-km-long Kinshasa plain, and Phase 3 the 90 km Kinshasa city loop.
The final phase involves an 80 km stretch from the airport to Malaku.
