Necsa ‘deeply saddened’ by board member death
The South African Nuclear Energy Corporation (Necsa) says it is “deeply saddened” by the passing of board member Senamile Masango on February 8.
Masango was a Necsa board member since January 2020. She was part of the board which oversaw the development and implementation of the Necsa turnaround strategy that was approved in 2021.
“Necsa is reaping the benefits of the work she contributed into ushering Necsa towards financial sustainability and good governance,” the corporation says.
Necsa says that Masango will be remembered as an “independent and vibrant” board member who defended her arguments based on principles and fairness.
She was the research, development and technology committee chairperson and served in other subcommittees as well, such as the audit and risk committee, investment and funding committee, human resources committee, social and ethics committee, as well as the nuclear oversight and regulatory compliance committee.
“Necsa will remember her commitment to promoting nuclear science awareness and advocating for women advancement in the science sector. We send our deepest condolences to the Masango family,” Necsa says.
