New forklifts for container manufacturer

2nd March 2007

Nampak Corrugated, in Port Elizabeth, has acquired three 1,8-t TCM forklifts from Criterion Equipment.

The new forklifts form part of a large fleet that Nampak operates and are used to move finished pro-ducts from the work-in-progress area to the dispatch area where they are loaded onto trucks for delivery for customers.

Nampak Corrugated manufactures corrugated paper containers for the agricultural and commercial industries. Citrus and apple farmers are the company’s largest customers in the agriculture industry, whilst Cadbury and various distillers comprise the main customers on the commercial side.

Nampak selected the forklifts after consultation with Criterion Equipment to determine which forklifts were best suited to their requirements, says financial man-ager of Nampak Corrugated, in Port Elizabeth, Alan Campbell.

The three forklifts were fitted with 1,5-m-long forks, and three-stage masts that provide extra height. Certain customers’ pro-ducts necessitated the extra height on the forklifts as well as the extra length, which was also necessary in order to accommodate the large pallets used in the factory, Campbell explains.

He adds that the three forklifts, bought in March 2006, were in addition to two TCM machines that were delivered in November 2005.

“We selected the TCM forklifts based on Criterion Equipment’s competitive price and on the maintenance agreement they were able to offer us,” Campbell said. He cited an additional benefit in Criterion Equip- ment’s being able to offer its customers flexible buying terms.

Criterion has a wide range of forklifts, including diesel, electric, gas, and hydrostatic machines, which come in an assortment of different sizes.
