The latest version of a cloud based software tool, the Peikko Designer Bolted Connection tool is now available in South Africa.

The tool is a module in a software portfolio used to assist structural engineers and designers to select the correct pre-cast connection elements for construction projects.

The modules enable designers to select the correct Peikko product for any kind of structure or connection and, being cloud-based, are automatically updated to constantly offer the latest features of the online tools.

Access to Peikko Designer is free for registered users but the online modules can be used without registering, without the need for installation or downloads.

The Bolted Connection V1.2 can be used as a companion to the company’s construction products and hardware offerings for pre-casters, building contractors, developers, flooring specialists, machine manufacturers, power plant designers, architects and structural designers.

New features include:

  • Project data automatically saved at short intervals
  • Protrusion height, effective height, and concrete cover of anchors can be viewed
  • Renewed report page for improved usability
  • Detailed concrete failure calculation results can be added to portable document format (PDF) printouts, offering a more finalised design
  • Detailed results include tool tips explaining the parameters used in failure calculations
  • Units utilised in the software have been added to the user interface and PDF printouts.
  • Enhanced performance of concrete failure verifications

In addition, the interaction surface, represented by 3D onion slices in joint failure, has been improved for better visualisation.

The company notes that the updated software enhances all the basic characteristics needed to successfully design bolted column connections to comply to EN Eurocode while supporting supplementary rebar, fire stage calculations, and national annexes.
