Name of the Project
Papierfabrik Palm paper mill.

Location
Aalen-Neukochen, Germany.

Project Owner/s
Palm.

Project Description
The project entails the construction of a new paper machine with a capacity of 750 000 t/y, which will replace three existing smaller machines. The paper mill will produce testliner and corrugated baseboard.

The investment will provide for a new raw material and finished-goods warehouse, a combined heat and power plant, as well as an effluent treatment plant.

With the new plant, water consumption per tonne of paper will be reduced by half. The new, state-of-the-art effluent treatment plant will be significantly quieter and will have double the performance, although the same amount of water will be used for the production of corrugated base paper as before.

Potential Job Creation
None stated.

Capital Expenditure
The project is estimated at €500-million.

Planned Start/End Date
The project broke ground in June 2019 and is expected to be completed in 2022.

Latest Developments
Voith has been awarded the contract for the supply of a complete BlueLine stock preparation line for the project.

In addition to the entire stock preparation unit from feed-in of the recovered paper to the finished stock, the scope of supply also includes the complete design of the line and its measuring, control and instrumentation systems.

The stock preparation unit will produce 2 200 t/d of stock.

Key Contracts and Suppliers
Traub (effluent treatment plant) and Voith (stock preparation line).

On Budget and on Time?
Too early to state.
