Products reintroduced, mill order received
MILLING PRODUCTS Metso received a €20-million order to deliver grinding mills to an African copper mining project, including energy-efficient HIGmill high-intensity stirred mills with auxiliary equipment and services
In June, industrial machinery company Metso announced its reintroduction of the OtoVent off-gas treatment technology for the quenching of various types of off-gases in non-ferrous and ferrous metallurgical processes and in oil, gas and chemical plants.
OtoVent, used, for example, at the most modern copper smelters, has high quenching and pre-dedusting capability, and the design ensures low maintenance effort.
The compact size makes it suitable for both greenfield and brownfield installations, with Metso saying it is an “exceptional” replacement for existing quenchers.
“The Venturi-shape design [of OtoVent] ensures complete cooling of gas, effectively protecting downstream equipment,” explains Metso gas cleaning director Leif Skilling.
In addition, he says the system ensures “excellent” pre-dedusting, and owing to its compact equipment design, maintenance needs are low.
Metso has extensive experience in gas cleaning plant design and construction, developed over several decades and enhanced by the company’s continued activities in the research and development of the process.
The benefits of OtoVent include high-efficiency quenching for reliable protection of downstream equipment, its suitability for highly corrosive gases and temperatures up to 1 200 ºC, its effective pre-dedusting and impurity removal, the ease with which it is maintained with low lifecycle costs, being customisable for different processes and plant arrangements, and the system’s compact footprint.
Metso also points out that its experts can provide support during commissioning of the OtoVent technology and assist with comprehensive training for operators and management to ensure that the maximum benefits of the system are realised.
Technical support and service can be provided as part of a service agreement.
Mill Order
In August, Metso announced its receipt of a €20-million order to deliver grinding mills to an African copper mining project, the order having been booked in the minerals segment’s third-quarter 2024 orders received.
Metso’s scope of delivery consists of energy-efficient HIG mill, high-intensity stirred mills with auxiliary equipment and services.
Metso has experience with over 8 000 grinding mill installations globally, including manufacturing and delivering some of the largest semi-autogenous grinding mills, autogenous mills and ball mills in the world.
Metso’s HIG mill is an advanced and energy-efficient fine and ultrafine grinding solution and is part of the company’s portfolio of stirred mills that meets a wide range of customer requirements.
The HIG mill takes advantage of gravitational forces and GrindForce rotor technology to produce a finer grind for mineral liberation, and is also part of Metso’s Planet Positive offering.
