Name and location
Tanzania road upgrade project.

Project description
The Tanzania road project aims at improving essential road transportation services between Dodoma, Singida, Babati and Arusha, in order to integrate the region with the rest of the country. It will also help integrate the key central transport corridor in Tanzania with the northern transport corridor traversing Kenya.

The road upgrade project will include civil works, consisting of the upgrade of 223,5 km of road to bitumen standard, with a width of 9,5 m (6,5-m carriageway and 2 by 1,5-m-wide sealed shoulders) in three parts of the region - the Singida-Katesh, Katesh-Dareda and Dareda-Babati-Minjingu sections of the network measuring 65,1 km, 73,8 km and 84,6 km, respectively; consultancy services consisting of works supervision in each of the three sections; project audit consultancy services; and resettlement.

Value
The total cost of the project is an estimated $128-million. The African Development Fund (ADF), the concessional window of the African Development Bank (AfDB) Group, has approved a loan of $92-million, to finance the upgrading of the road network in central Tanzania. The Tanzanian government will fund the balance of the project.
