The Armaments Corporation of South Africa SOC Limited (Armscor) is an acquisition agency for the South African Department of Defence (DOD) and other organs of state and entities.

Armscor’s mandate is to provide the armed forces with state-of-the-art defence material, delivering innovative defence solutions efficiently and effectively. Under the leadership of Advocate Solomzi Mbada, Chief Executive Officer, the organisation manages the strategic capabilities of the DOD, producing research and vanguard technological solutions required to provide safety and security for South Africa, its citizens and the continent.

Gun Laying and Navigation System

Gun Laying and Navigation System (GLNS), which is being developed and produced for the South African Army Artillery, is a standardised gyroscopic capability developed for integration in the South African Army Artillery launchers, namely the 155 mm GV6 and 127 mm MRL (Bateleur). The GLNS provides a rapid and accurate navigation, fixation, orientation and laying capability to all current and future South African Army Artillery PME, excluding the 120 mm M5 mortars.

The GLNS product development phase has been concluded and is now in the production phase. Armscor assumes oversight on the project management function, ensuring maintained performance against the project’s financial, scheduled and technical performance.

Why Choose Us

The GLNS design offers an integrated, state-of-the-art technology solution for laying, navigation, fixation and orientation of artillery systems, standardised for integration into old and new artillery systems. This migrates from traditional stand-alone orientation systems into one integrated design, which significantly reduces time and improves accuracy. It further showcases Armscor’s capabilities pertaining to acquisition services.
