SEW-EURODRIVE supporting Africa with reliable, efficient, innovative solutions

SEW-EURODRIVE national sales and marketing manager Jonathan McKey shares what role SEW-EURODRIVE is playing in shaping the future of mining in Africa, particularly in terms of technology and innovation.
Drive and automation technology supplier SEW-EURODRIVE continues to expand its footprint in Africa. During an interview at Investing in Mining Indaba 2025, SEW-EURODRIVE national sales and marketing manager Jonathan McKey shares the key elements of its strategy for supporting the continent's mining sector.
Mining operations demand reliable, efficient and innovative solutions and SEW-EURODRIVE is addressing the specific challenges faced by mines in Africa.
SEW-EURODRIVE’s ‘closing the loop’ strategy is a significant focus for the company and includes the development of a new 17 000 m² Service and Repair Centre located next to the company’s headquarters in Aeroton, Johannesburg.
McKey explains that following a R500-million investment in its 26 000 m² headquarters complex in 2022, SEW-EURODRIVE has further committed about R384-million to the new centre, reflecting its confidence in Africa’s growth potential. The new facility will address the critical need for expert gearbox repair services in Africa.
He adds that with sustainability being a growing priority in mining, SEW-EURODRIVE’s approach to energy-efficient solutions aligns with the industry’s drive for greener operations.
