Canadian mining company Silvercorp Metals has renewed the mining permit for its SGX silver/lead/zinc mine in China for another 11 years, extending operations until September 24, 2035, with an increased production capacity of 500 000 t/y.

The Yuelianggou mining licence, which covers the SGX and HZG mines located in the western part of the Ying mining district, was successfully renewed following the completion of several required studies. These included a mineral resource estimate, a mine development plan, a reclamation plan, an environmental and soil preservation plan, an environmental impact study update, and a safety production facility design. Each of these reports underwent independent review before submission to Chinese authorities.

Silvercorp's renewal process is now awaiting the final assessment of historical government investment in the licence area, which may lead to additional payments before the paper certificate is officially issued. Meanwhile, the SGX and HZG mines continue to operate normally, with the company actively working on optimizing the mines to reach the newly approved production capacity.
