SMEC wins oil terminal project, Ethiopia
This article has been supplied.
Over the past four years, SMEC South Africa, with support from SMEC International, has successfully built a strong Mining, Oil and Gas offering in Africa. The SMEC focus of bringing to their clients a local footprint supported by global excellence, has yet again resulted in another strategic win.
The new development of the white oil products storage terminal at Port Dukem in Ethiopia, will be the biggest in capacity (240,000 cubic metres) among the country’s depots, and the first to store and handle aviation fuel. It will be able to accommodate refined petroleum; white products receipt; storage and distribution (comprising product storage tanks, tank truck and rail wagon receipt facility, and tank truck loading gantry with allied piping/automation); and other related facilities.
SMEC will provide the services on an EPCM basis in two phases. Phase 1 will include basic engineering, front-end- engineering (FEED) and tender preparation and evaluation whilst phase 2 will then be followed by construction supervision and support for the project implementation.
“This project will showcase our organisation’s collective capability in delivering complex resources projects in Africa. We are thankful for the appointment by the Ethiopian Petroleum Supply Enterprise and I am sure that the team will deliver a great project”, according to Gerrit Lok, the general manager for SMEC’s resources group in Africa.
SMEC International will be supported in this project by the SMEC Oil and Gas process team in Pakistan, the Surbana Jurong Oil and Gas master planning team in Singapore, the local SMEC Ethiopian office and SMEC South Africa. SMEC South Africa will provide an oversight role in terms of the EPCM delivery requirements on the project.
