Snow will not stop the 40-hour Rand Water outage
Rand Water spokesperson Makenosi Maroo says the snowfall in Johannesburg will not stop the 40-hour planned water interruption that is expected to start at 19:00 on Tuesday and end at 15:00 on Thursday while Rand Water installs two valves between the A19 and B14 pipelines.
Most of Johannesburg will be affected by the outage, and some areas of the city will likely be without water after the restoration time as the system recovers.
Rand Water told News24 last week that it could take five days for the system to fully recover and recommended that residents start storing water from Sunday.
City of Johannesburg MMC for Environment and Infrastructure Services Jack Sekwaila told residents on Friday that it could take up to 14 days for some areas to fully recover.
"We assure the residents of Johannesburg that, during the shutdown, Johannesburg Water will provide stationary tankers at hospitals, clinics, municipal offices, schools and police stations. There will also be mobile tankers across the City in all affected areas until the water supply is fully restored," he said.
Maroo said on Monday that she had been inundated with phone calls about the outage.
"We had a meeting this morning," she said, "and the shutdown is continuing."
She said water experts had assessed the situation and concluded that the inclement weather would not interfere with the upgrades.
On its Twitter page, Rand Water reminded residents of the areas which will be without water from Tuesday night.
