Spray coatings extend valves' operating lives

12th November 2004

Gauteng-based corrosion-resistant surface-alloy distributor Flame Spray Technologies (FST) has developed hard and corrosion-resistant coatings which have made it possible to increase the working life of valves.

“In recent years, many industrial processes which involve the use of valves have become more demanding in terms of temperature, pressure, environmental working conditions and the need to reduce costs,” says sales and marketing manager Howard Shaw.

“In such applications, valves must be able to cope with – and withstand – these conditions; our coatings make this possible,” he adds. Shaw says that the crux of the problem is that, in modern industry, valves are increasingly used under extreme conditions like fluids containing abrasive particle sediments or in corrosive agents such as H2S or seawater and HCL. Moreover, he says, working temperatures in and around the valve can often exceed 600
