Steinmüller Africa named contractor of the year for Kendal power station
The Steinmüller Africa Kendal Boilerserve team has been awarded the Eskom Kendal Power Station Contractor of the Year Award 2024.
This award demonstrates the company’s continued role as leaders in the steam generation plant service industry.
Presented at the Eskom Kendal Power Station Manager’s Awards Ceremony, the team was recognised for achieving a weld repair rate of less than 2% over the current and previous Eskom financial year, alongside more than 1.7-million hours worked with no lost-time owing to injury.
Kendal Power Station, located in Mpumalanga, is one of Africa’s largest power stations, with a generation capacity of about 4 000 MW.
Boiler maintenance is essential for the efficient, safe and reliable operation of a power station. This is the first time the team has received this prestigious award since being awarded the contract in 2022.
“Winning this award is a testament to the company’s consistent excellence,” says Steinmüller Africa project manager Thuso Gift Mashamba, adding that the award enhances its credibility and strengthens trust among clients, customers and stakeholders.
Under Mashamba's leadership, the implementation of thorough toolbox training sessions focusing on safety and quality was a key factor contributing to the team’s success.
These sessions ensured that the crew clearly understood expectations regarding protocols and standards for both the client and Steinmüller Africa.
“This award goes a long way in solidifying our reputation on site and beyond, and also positions us well to secure future projects due to our commitment to excellence,” Mashamba notes.
The recognition further motivates the team to consistently surpass targets and refine areas for improvement.
This award has allowed Steinmüller Africa to reflect on how it will continue delivering outstanding results and maintain its strong brand presence in the industry.
