Name of the Project
Thor Wind Farm.

Location
Danish North Sea, about 22 km from Thorsminde, on the west coast of Jutland.

Project Owner/s
RWE Renewables.

Project Description
RWE plans to build Denmark’s biggest offshore wind power plant to date, with the capacity to produce enough green electricity to supply the equivalent of more than one-million Danish households.

The 1 100 MW wind farm will comprise 72 offshore wind turbines, each with a capacity of 15 MW and a 236-m-diameter rotor with a swept area of 43 500 m2.

Potential Job Creation
The project is expected to create up to 60 permanent jobs.

Capital Expenditure
Not stated.

Planned Start/End Date
Installation of the turbines at sea is expected to begin in 2026. The project is planned to start operation no later than the end of 2027.

Latest Developments
RWE has completed the installation of the foundations.

In September, the final one of 72 monopiles for the wind turbines was installed.

RWE has also finalised the installation of the associated secondary steel structures, including boat landings, main access platforms and internal cassettes.

The completion of the secondary steel installation was achieved in less than six months using Van Oord’s offshore wind installation vessel, MPI Adventure. Offshore works were coordinated from the Danish Port of Thyborøn.

To protect the foundations from the harsh conditions at sea until the turbine towers are mounted, innovative reusable hard covers have been installed.

RWE placed the 2 600 t offshore substation topside on its jacket foundation in July 2025.

Key Contracts, Suppliers and Consultants
Siemens Gamesa (wind turbines) and Furgo (geotechnical site investigation).
