Trailing cable repair solutions boost product lifespan
A cable repair service that offers turnkey solutions for various cable repair needs, includes phase insulation and sheath repairs, complete resplicing, end plug fitment and machine installation.
Launched in November 2024 Epiroc’s trailing cable service is focused on providing quality cable repairs that meet both South African and Australian specifications.
“By repairing worn cables that customers might otherwise scrap, we not only extend product lifespan but also eliminate the need for costly replacements. Moreover, repairs can be conducted multiple times, further driving down costs for customers while directly contributing to waste reduction. Our mandate is to ensure that our repaired cables perform like new, giving our customers a lower total cost of ownership and ultimately delivering greater value,” says Epiroc electrification solutions business line manager Kishore Jeebodh.
While the primary service is based at the company’s headquarters in Jet Park, Johannesburg, its logistics support reaches across the Southern Africa region. Jeebodh confirms that currently, repairs are offered for all mobile loaders and excavators, or MLE, equipment, including boomers, jumbos, bolters, cable bolters, easers, and long hole drills. Epiroc’s cable repair service is agnostic and compatible with different equipment, allowing repairs to be conducted on any machinery that fits the specified cable standards of 35 mm to 70 mm 640 /1100 Vac for South African applications or Australian 241.1 cable specifications.
“Our skilled team of electricians and millwrights has been specially trained by JTMEC experts, who bring years of experience in trailing cable repairs within the Australian market,” affirms Jeebodh. He further emphasizes that the company’s service solutions also extend to non-destructive testing, which is impossible to conduct at the work face.
Epiroc’s cable repair service aims to ensure that mines and plants can maintain optimal equipment performance, increase uptime and lower operational costs.
