Supplier introduces new product

7th May 2010

Font size: - +

Valves supplier Gemü Africa reports that it has launched its Gemü butterfly valve for particular use in the slurry sector. The Gemü valve offers a stainless steel disc and a polyurethane (PU) liner, which enhances the life of the valve, with the disc resistant to abrasive particles and the liner soft enough to absorb very fine particles, enabling the valve to absorb the high velocity pressures associated with slurry.

The company says that, owing to the corrosive and abrasive nature of slurry practices and the subsequent wear and tear on valve liners and discs, the slurry industry has specific requirements when it comes to valves.

Traditionally, knife-gate valves have been seen as the solution for applications in the slurry sector, but the company believes that its Gemü butterfly valve can be controlled more accurately.

The company offers the butterfly valve in nominal diameter (DN) sizes up to DN 300 with the DN 600 size currently on order. The valves are manufactured in Germany but are modified locally to meet specified customer requirements.

The company says that Gemü butterfly valves are competitively priced and that it offers full technical and spares support and free on-site trials, as well as access to global research and new technological development by its parent company, US-based Gemü.

Gemü also offers the more traditional diaphragm valve, also specifically manufactured for slurry use with the added advantage of a removable PU liner, which eliminates the need to replace the entire valve. This offers the customer financial savings, as down time and valve replacement costs are reduced.

All Gemü valves come with the company’s standard warranty and standard accessories, such as solenoid valves, electrical position indi- cators and actuators. Manual or pneumatic/electrical actuators or gearbox actuators are available for bigger sizes of butterfly and diaphragm valves.

Further, the company also reports that it has established three new regional distributors in KwaZulu-Natal (KZN), Port Elizabeth and East London.

Gemü Africa branch manager Keith Hedges says that the company has appointed three distributors in South Africa, namely Instruments 4 You, in Port Elizabeth, Ekim Sales, in East London, and Tovani Trading, in KZN.

“This network of distributors will ensure that our customers have efficient access to our products and technologies around the country, and will enable the company to expand its reach into region-specific industries, such as the pharmaceuticals, automotive, pulp and paper and chemicals industries,” he concludes.
