Vesconite's Hitemp 160 bearing material transforms high-temperature pump applications
South African bearings and wear parts manufacturer Vesconite Bearings produces a bearing material known as Hitemp 160 that is able to operate up to 200 °C, depending on the application. Vesconite senior technical representative Phillip de Villiers tells Engineering News about this innovative material, which is set to redefine the possibilities of pump applications in extreme temperature environments.
Hitemp 160 is a new bearing material able to operate up to 200 °C, depending on the application. South African bearings and wear parts manufacturer Vesconite Bearings produces its Hitemp 160 bearing material at its Virginia-based factory in the Free State.
Vesconite senior technical representative Phillip de Villiers tells Engineering News that this innovative material is set to redefine the possibilities of pump applications in extreme temperature environments.
“The primary advantage of Hitemp 160 lies in its ability to operate within an expanded temperature range. It can withstand temperatures of up to 200 °C, making it suitable for a diverse range of applications involving clean water or certain chemicals. Such capabilities are virtually unheard of for polymer bearing materials, showing a significant breakthrough in the industry,” he says.
Importantly, Hitemp 160 can endure extreme temperatures from below zero, all the way up to 200 °C. De Villiers emphasises that the material can withstand high-pressure steam encountered in various industrial processes. This exposure to high temperature applications in the pumping industry is a remarkable achievement for Vesconite Bearings, cementing its position as a leader in the development of advanced bearing materials.
Moreover, Vesconite's Hitemp 160 has received certification from the UK's water regulations approval scheme (WRAS). This prestigious certification holds great significance, particularly for original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) in the drinking water sector.
“The UK's WRAS is highly regarded in Europe. Vesconite's material is now approved for use in drinking water applications, ensuring the safe and reliable supply of this essential resource to individuals,” notes de Villiers.
When asked about their global reach, de Villiers highlighted the company's focus on Italy, Spain and Turkey. However, Vesconite has a global footprint, supplying bearings to more than 100 countries. To ensure customer satisfaction and support, the company deploys representatives who travel extensively to each country, delivering the necessary expertise and technical guidance.
With Hitemp 160, Vesconite is reshaping the landscape of high-temperature pump applications. The material's exceptional heat resistance and certification for drinking water usage make it an invaluable solution for OEMs and industries across the globe. As Vesconite continues to explore new possibilities, its commitment to innovation ensures a reliable and efficient future for pumping systems operating under extreme conditions.
