Webinar shines spotlight on South Africa’s gas-to-power procurement outlook
The latest developments in South Africa’s gas-to-power procurement programme and the role natural gas could play in strengthening the country’s future energy mix are set to be unpacked during Creamer Media upcoming Gas webinar on March 25 at 14:00.
The session (click here to register) will provide an update on progress with Bid Window 1 of the Gas Independent Power Producer Procurement Programme (BW1 GASIPPPP), including whether revisions to the request for proposals have improved investor confidence and strengthened participation in the programme.
The panel will also examine how gas-to-power procurement aligns with Integrated Resource Plan (IRP) 2025, and whether proposed timelines for both the IRP and BW1 GASIPPPP remain achievable given infrastructure constraints and tight global supply for key equipment such as gas turbines.
Another key area of discussion will be South Africa’s approaching gas supply cliff, with speakers exploring the implications for the country’s energy security and electricity generation mix. The conversation will consider potential future sources of gas supply, including the development of liquefied natural gas import infrastructure in South Africa and Mozambique.
In addition, the webinar will assess the possible electricity tariff implications of gas-to-power procurement and how these projects could influence the cost of power generation over the medium to long term.
The discussion aims to provide valuable insights for stakeholders across the energy, infrastructure and investment sectors seeking clarity on the future of gas within South Africa’s power system.
