Europe-based global major aerospace group Airbus has announced the new CEO for its Commercial Aircraft (airliner manufacturing) business. He is Lars Wagner. He will take over from current Commercial Aircraft CEO Christian Scherer with effect from January 1, next year.

Wagner is aged 50 and is currently CEO of German company MTU Aero Engines AG, a post he has held since January 2023. He joined MTU in 2015. Prior to becoming CEO, he was COO and executive VP in charge of original equipment manufacturer operations.

He is not new to Airbus. Before joining MTU, he had held several management positions in Airbus, in Germany and France (at Bremen, Hamburg and Toulouse).

Wagner holds a degree in mechanical and aeronautical engineering and an MBA.

He will rejoin Airbus in November, to ensure a smooth transition. But Scherer will remain CEO until December 31. Scherer has had a career of more than 40 years and has occupied several executive positions at Airbus.
