South African regional and domestic airline Airlink announced on Monday that it would increase the frequency of its flights between South Africa’s main Indian Ocean coast city, Durban, in KwaZulu-Natal province, and the Zimbabwean capital city of Harare, to once every day. The new flights will start on August 7.

Previously, the carrier operated the Durban-Harare sector six days a week. The day that had no flight was Wednesday. That gap will now be filled.

“We are going daily on the route in response to our customers’ positive reaction to the convenience and greater value of our direct service on this route,” explained Airlink CEO and MD Rodger Foster. “It is an appealing combination that promotes business, trade, tourism and travel between the two key cities and enhances the economic competitiveness of the regions they support.”

The flights from Durban to Harare are coded 4Z 410 and depart at 10h30, arriving at Harare at 12h40. The return flights are coded 4Z 411 and leave Harare at 13h20 and land at Durban at 15h35.

The service is operated by Airlink’s Embraer ERJ140 airliners. The ERJ140 is a 44-seat regional jet, and economy class passengers have a free checked-in baggage allowance of 20 kg, plus a 15 kg sporting equipment allowance. On the flight, passengers are served a complimentary light meal and refreshments. All Airlink aircraft have only aisle or window seats.

The flights are scheduled to have convenient connections with both the airline’s other services (domestic and regional), and with long-haul services provided by its range of global airline partners.

Airlink was founded in 1992. A private-sector enterprise, it now has a fleet of more than 65 modern jetliners and services a wide range of destinations within South Africa, and across Southern and East Africa. Its regional (outside South Africa) network covers 45 destinations in 15 African countries, all the way up to Nairobi, in Kenya. It also operates services to St Helena Island. Its domestic network covers 17 towns and cities, across all South African provinces (except North West province).
