Location
Soyo, Angola.

Project Owner/s
Amufert.

Project Description
The plant, which has easy access to natural gas, energy, water and a commercial port, will boost industrialisation, provide increased food security and position Angola as the food basket of the region.

The proposed factory will process about 25-million British thermal units of natural gas a year for the production of 1.3-million tonnes a year of urea.

The project includes the construction of an 8 km conveyor belt that will connect the factory to the commercial Port of Soyo.

Potential Job Creation
The plant is expected to create about 4 700 jobs, 3 500 of which will arise during the construction phase and the remaining 1 200 jobs when the plant is operational.

Capital Expenditure
About $2-billion. African Export-Import Bank (Afreximbank) and Amufert announced terms for a $1.4-billion facility in August 2024 to support the establishment of the fertiliser plant.

Afreximbank will act as the lead arranger and financial adviser for the project.
