South Africa’s energy future is being reshaped by a powerhouse duo:  the  100% South African-owned photovoltaic (PV) manufacturer ARTsolar and global technology leader JA Solar. Together, they are not just manufacturing solar panels, they are pioneering a manufacturing revolution that combines advanced technology, lean production principles and deep local empowerment.

Founded in 2010 by visionary entrepreneurs Eshu Seevnarayan, Patrick Goss and Nhlanhla Zondo, ARTsolar was born out of a bold commitment to create a sustainable and locally driven renewable energy industry in South Africa. These founders envisioned an enterprise that would not only produce world-class solar technology but also transform local communities through skills development and job creation.

For over 15 years, ARTsolar has been the bedrock of South Africa’s renewable energy manufacturing sector. Amidst a turbulent landscape of policy shifts and fierce import competition, ARTsolar has doubled down on innovation, transforming its Durban facility into a world-class manufacturing hub.

Technical Breakthrough

In an African first, ARTsolar and JA Solar have delivered the first locally produced DeepBlue 4.0 Pro n-type solar modules for the 216 MW Hydra Project. These large-format, high-efficiency n-type modules represent a leap forward in PV technology—offering superior energy yield, enhanced durability and lower degradation rates compared to traditional modules.

Lean Manufacturing Meets Local Talent

ARTsolar’s success is built on more than technology—it is built on a rigorous commitment to lean manufacturing principles that optimise efficiency, reduce waste and maximise quality. By implementing continuous improvement methodologies such as Kaizen and Just-In-Time production, ARTsolar ensures that every panel is produced with precision, speed and minimal environmental impact.

This lean approach is supported by a skilled workforce: 300 previously unemployed young South Africans have been trained and developed through intensive, hands-on programmes aligned with JA Solar’s global standards. These skilled

operators are the engine behind ARTsolar’s ability to deliver Tier 1-quality solar modules reliably and on scale.

Locally Guaranteed Solar Solutions with Global Excellence

  • Local Warranty Support: Responsive, on-the-ground service with no offshore delays.
  • Fast Turnaround & Local Stock: Agile supply chain management ensures timely delivery.
  • Full Compliance with South African Standards: Seamlessly meeting REIPPPP and other regulatory requirements.
  • Economic Empowerment: Creating jobs, growing skills and building a sustainable local manufacturing industry.

South Africa’s Green Future Needs You

ARTsolar has championed the local renewable manufacturing industry for over a decade and a half, pioneering not just production but a philosophy of continuous innovation and empowerment. But for South Africa to fully reclaim its place as a leader in green technology on the continent, South African government, business and citizens must rally behind local manufacturing and locally guaranteed solar solutions.

By choosing ARTsolar, you are not just investing in solar panels, you are investing in a sustainable energy future built on technical excellence, lean manufacturing and true local ownership.

Support local. Support innovation. Support ARTsolar.

Together, let’s power South Africa’s clean energy revolution.
