Name of the Project
Island View Precinct liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) terminal.

Location
Port of Durban’s Island View Precinct, in KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa.

Project Owner/s
State-owned freight and logistics company Transnet National Ports Authority (TNPA) signed a 25-year terminal operator agreement with the WASAA Gases and Central Energy Fund Joint Venture (JV) in December 2025 to develop and operate the proposed new LPG terminal.

Project Description
The JV will develop, build, operate, maintain and transfer the LPG terminal.

The project will result in LPG terminal storage and handling capacity of 50 000 m³.

The terminal will have capacity to dispatch up to 800 m³/h of heated LPG mix. This will provide essential supplies for various industrial markets and produce specific grades suitable for residential use.

Potential Job Creation
The project will create opportunities for local suppliers during the development and implementation phases. An estimated 51% of black-owned, women-led and youth-led enterprises, and those operated by people living with disabilities, will benefit from industrial development pertaining to terminal design, engineering and other associated services.

Capital Expenditure
R1.4-billion.

Planned Start/End Date
