Call for expression of interest to join TIA’s External Experts Database

Technology Innovation Agency (TIA), an entity of the Department of Science and Innovation (DSI) was established in terms of the TIA Act, 2008 (Act No. 26 of 2008), with the objective to stimulate, intensify and exploit technological innovation to improve economic growth and the quality of life of all South Africans.

PURPOSE OF THE CALL

TIA extends invitations to prospective industry experts to join the Agency’s expert database. The database is used to source independent industry experts to supplement internal capabilities for improved operational efficiency. The following categories of experts are required:

  • Academic /Individuals
  • Industry Experts
  • Non-academic applicants, including Business, Technology Transfer Offices (TTO’s) and Policy professionals

The appointed expert will support the Agency in assessing, evaluating, and verifying applications for investment including access to leading knowledge as and when required. This will include Deal Sourcing, Assessment, Deal Structuring, Project Management, Post Investment Support, Investment Finance, Workout and Restructuring, Legal and IP assessments, Impact Assessment and industry studies, Investment Forensic audit and investigations and Final project / programme performance review.

REQUIREMENTS

Evidence of experience in technology development or innovation with technical knowledge deployed in a business, commercial or policy environment.

For all roles, it is expected that experts will commit to the necessary time and attention for appointments and to have the full support or the necessary permissions.

  • The Team members must have a minimum of 3 – 5 years’ experience in developing technology innovation and development, project management and investment commercialisation.
  • A minimum of 5 – 10 years of experience for the individual’s / company’s relevant field of expertise.
  • Experience in evaluating project health, economic effectiveness and efficiency.
  • Capability in providing independent expert reports for Technology Innovation Assessments / Evaluations, Due Diligence
  • Investigations, Project Audit Investigations, Specialist Audit Services, and Post Investment Management

MANDATORY DOCUMENT REQUIREMENTS

  • Evidence of experience in technology development or innovation with technical knowledge deployed in a business, commercial or policy environment.
  • For all roles, it is expected that experts will commit to the necessary time and attention for appointments and to have the full support or the necessary permissions.
  • The Team members must have a minimum of 3 – 5 years’ experience in developing technology innovation and development, project management and investment commercialisation.
  • A minimum of 5 – 10 years of experience for the individual’s / company’s relevant field of expertise.
  • Experience in evaluating project health, economic effectiveness and efficiency.
  • Capability in providing independent expert reports for Technology Innovation Assessments / Evaluations, Due Diligence
  • Investigations, Project Audit Investigations, Specialist Audit Services, and Post Investment Management
  • A cover letter and detailed CV specifying expertise, based on skills and experience in technology innovation (company applications must provide the CVs of all employees).
  • Academics and individuals must provide evidence to demonstrate understanding of the technology innovation and business landscape (for example through interaction with universities or institutions, participation in innovation networks or commercialisation accelerators).
  • A minimum of three (3) reference letters (not older than 3 years) from organisation’s that the individual / company conducted technology innovation funding application assessments and / or due diligence investigations or conducted work in the individual’s / company’s area of expertise.
  • Company applications must provide a detailed company profile, company registration documents (CIPC / CSD / Lexus Nexus), Tax clearance certificate for local experts, and B - BBEE certificate / sworn affidavit for local experts.
  • Written approval to do other work if the individual is employed by a government institution.
  • In the case of international experts, an SBD1 form needs to be completed and submitted to SARS for a directive
