Cape Town is first African destination to be served by Lufthansa with its new cabins
German national flag carrier Lufthansa has made its Munich-Cape Town route the first of its services to Africa to employ the airline’s latest cabin design, branded as “Lufthansa Allegris”. The Allegris upgrade embraces all classes on Lufthansa airliners – economy, premium economy, business, and first class.
The Airbus A350s operated by the carrier on the Munich-Cape Town route were configured with three of these classes – economy, premium economy and business. The Allegris-configured airliners started operating this service on Sunday.
“The Allegris seat cabins represent a new level of quality and innovation that we believe will not only enhance the international travel experience for South African passengers but also position Cape Town as a key destination for premium travellers,” affirmed Lufthansa senior director sales Southern & East Africa, Nigeria and Equatorial Guinea Rene Koinzack. “We anticipate a positive shift in travel patterns with more South Africans choosing to fly internationally with us, while also attracting quality-oriented tourists from key global markets to our local tourism sector.”
The Allegris cabin forms part of Lufthansa’s current €2.5-billion programme to upgrade its products and services. This programme will be completed by 2025.
The new cabin configurations are characterised by seats that are spacious and adjustable, as well as latest-generation entertainment systems with the latest inflight entertainment. Allegris business class features private suites.
“We are delighted with the return of Lufthansa’s seasonal Munich flight to Cape Town and the addition of the new Allegris cabin product is sure to provide passengers with an unmatched level of comfort and luxury,” highlighted Western Cape trade, tourism and investment promotion agency Wesgro CEO, and Cape Town Air Access official spokesperson, Wrenelle Stander. “This upgraded service shows the commitment of Lufthansa to Cape Town and the Western Cape, and we will continue to do our part in attracting more passengers to the destination.”
