Climate change is undeniably the defining challenge of our time

More and more people the world over are declaring unequivocally that climate change is undeniably the defining challenge of our time. What’s more, many companies have made praiseworthy strides towards a just transition – and are moving vocally away from old carbon-intensive and methane-heavy behaviour that threatens the future of our planet. Such responsible advances must be strongly applauded.

But, if truth be told, adaptation also presents a colossal business opportunity, at a time when quick-return economic development is urgently needed. The development of a green energy ecosystem across the length and breadth of the Southern African Development Community, for instance, will save each of the dozen member countries a fortune – and stop invaluable foreign exchange from continuously pouring out of the region.

The implementation of full carbon neutrality across the globe has the potential to create a sector worth hundreds of trillions of rands – and the developmental funding for credible projects is there for the taking.
