Firm highlights solutions for offshore projects
OPERATIONAL EFFICIENCY Efficient lifting and rigging solutions are required to advance the strategic imperatives of offshore projects
Offshore projects are a key segment for engineering products and services provider BMG’s dedicated Tools & Equipment: Lifting and Rigging division, demanding specialist solutions for safe and effective lifting and rigging in arduous conditions.
The division provides solutions for lifting and rigging challenges in all industries, including automotive, paper and pulp, sugar, marine and mining.
“BMG’s dedicated lifting and rigging team supplies and supports a broad range of quality branded equipment, enhanced by a technical advisory and support service, and designed for simplified, efficient and safe procedures in every application,” BMG Tools & Equipment Lifting and Rigging specialist Tanita Rousel-Brett explains.
“BMG’s Kito Crosby product portfolio, which is perfectly suited for dependable use in offshore projects, includes wide body and bolt type shackles for heavy and critical offshore lifts, cold Tuff Bolt type shackles for lifts conducted in extreme weather conditions and Crosby SP load monitoring solutions,” she says.
Further, the portfolio includes remotely operated vehicle (ROV) shackles and hooks that are manufactured to “withstand the toughest conditions” and are suitable for use with various underwater ROVs.
BMG is a sub-distributor in Southern Africa of the Kito Crosby brands and product portfolio, which includes Crosby, Gunnebo Industries, Crosby StraightPoint and Crosby IP clamps.
Included in BMG’s extensive range of tools, lifting and rigging equipment are electric, chain and lever hoists, geared and plain crawls, chain, wire and webbing slings, hydraulic and pneumatic hoists and winches, as well as manual Tirfor winches and ropes. The range also comprises high-pressure hydraulic tools, mechanical ratchet jacks, jib cranes and eye bolts.
BMG states that it complies fully with the requirements of the lifting machine and lifting tackle regulations of the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA). The company’s lifting machinery inspector is certified in terms of the Engineering Profession Act and is a registered member of the Engineering Council of South Africa.
Moreover, BMG has approval from the Department of Employment and Labour in terms of the driven machinery regulations 18(5) of the OHSA, for the examining and testing of lifting machines and lifting tackle.
BMG specialists consider the safe operation of lifting and rigging equipment as one of the most critical aspects in materials handling and recommend that customers’ equipment is independently load tested each year, or in line with urgent requirements, as well as inspected every three months. Fortunately, the company has a fully-equipped trailer and can offer an onsite load testing service for customer convenience and peace of mind.
BMG – which celebrated 50 years of business last year – offers complete process solutions to all sectors of industry, which means customers can access quality engineering components, and technical services and support, from one well-established, reliable supplier.
The company’s specialist divisions – bearings, seals and gaskets, power transmission, drives and motors, materials handling, agriculture, tools and fasteners, hydraulics, filtration, lubrication and field services – offer an integrated approach to engineering that “guarantees” lower production costs and higher efficiencies, BMG concludes.
