Daimler Truck SA opens new head office in R200m investment

Daimler Truck Southern Africa (DTSA) has officially opened its new head office in Centurion in a R200-million investment into the country.

The group also spent R20-million on upgrading its truck assembly plant in East London, in the Eastern Cape.

The establishment of the campus, housing about 600 people, follows the global split between Daimler’s truck and car businesses, which was replicated locally in 2021.

This required DTSA to secure its own headquarters as it departed the Mercedes-Benz campus, also in Centurion.

The 12 ha site, located next to the Old Johannesburg Road, houses DTSA staff, training facilities, used- and new-vehicle businesses, as well as the Daimler Truck Financial Services company.

The facility also sports 752 solar panels with a capacity of 320 kWp, as well as a significant battery bank. Water storage facilities at the facility can collect up to 20 000 ℓ.

Mercedes-Benz Trucks CEO Karin Rådström, who travelled to South Africa for the ribbon-cutting ceremony at the end of April, said the investment reaffirmed the Daimler group’s commitment to one of its strategic markets in Africa.

“The new headquarters sets the team up properly to serve our customers in this very important market for Daimler Truck.”

DTSA serves truck markets in South Africa, Namibia, Lesotho, Botswana, eSwatini, Malawi, Mozambique, Zimbabwe and Zambia.
