Digital Parks Africa, Master Power Technologies get European energy efficiency certifications
Data centre services company Digital Parks Africa (DPA) has been certified as a participant in the European Commission’s Code of Conduct for Energy Efficiency in Data Centres, while industrial power company Master Power Technologies has been certified as an endorser of the same code of conduct.
The certification is managed by the European Commission’s Joint Research Centre (JRC) and recognises data centres that voluntarily commit to implementing best practices in energy efficiency and environmental stewardship.
Certified participants, like DPA, must demonstrate continuous improvement through yearly reporting and action plans that detail how energy savings will be achieved, the company says.
DPA was required to conduct an initial energy audit, submit a detailed action plan and commit to ongoing monitoring of its energy performance to ensure that its operations remain aligned with evolving European standards and that its facilities continue to improve in efficiency year after year.
“With this certification, any hyperscaler or customer considering hosting or co-locating with DPA can be assured that our infrastructure and operations meet the highest international standards for responsible energy use,” says DPA group chief commercial officer Wiaan Vermaak.
Further, for investors, this means access to taxonomy-aligned reporting, which is a critical requirement for sustainable investment, he adds.
“Hosting in a certified facility means lower operational costs, predictable energy usage and alignment with global sustainability goals. It also offers reputational advantages by allowing organisations to demonstrate environmental responsibility throughout their value chain.”
Additionally, DPA is collaborating with the European Data Centres Association to develop a dedicated African Code of Conduct that will drive sustainable growth across the continent, says Vermaak.
Meanwhile, Master Power Technologies' certification, also awarded by the JRC, recognises companies that design and support data centres in accordance with rigorous best practices for energy management.
“African engineering can meet and exceed global benchmarks. With this certification, we can assure clients that their data centres are being built to the same standards as the best in Europe, and are efficient, sustainable and future-ready,” says Master Power Technologies founder and CEO Menno Parsons.
Further, the certification also enhances credibility with global partners, particularly those seeking to align with the EU’s Taxonomy Regulation and sustainability directives.
As the continent experiences exponential digital growth, the need for resilient and efficient infrastructure is critical, he says.
“We are helping to build a sustainable digital future for Africa. The certification also opens the door for deeper collaboration with European partners and policymakers, thereby ensuring that Africa is actively shaping the future of data centre innovation,” Parsons says.
