The Dube Tradeport Special Economic Zone has announced that the Dube Cargo Terminal, located at Durban’s King Shaka International Airport (KSIA), had registered 7% year-on-year (y-o-y) growth during the 12 months from April 2024 to March 2025. This followed the more than 5% y-o-y growth achieved during the April 2023 to March 2024 period.

In quantitative terms, the 2024/25 period saw the terminal handle 15 429 t of cargo, up from the 14 424 t handled during the previous 12-month period. “This performance has been supported by the rise of specialised air charters and an expanded demand for airfreight by the perishables sector, particularly in fruit and meat exports, destined for markets in Europe and the Middle East,” explained Dube Tradeport.

The increasing international air connectivity being developed for KSIA, through the Durban Direct initiative, meant that the Dube Cargo Terminal could support exporters targeting a wider range of markets, particularly those enterprises exporting perishable goods. To ensure continued air cargo growth, Dube Tradeport had invested in bonded trucking, and bonded and cold storage warehouses, as well as participating in the Durban Direct initiative.

“These investments have enhanced the handling of specialised and time-sensitive shipments,” highlighted Dube Tradeport. “Dube Cargo Terminal’s infrastructure and commitment to service excellence is designed to meet these needs while strengthening South Africa’s participation in both regional and global supply chains.”
