Engen, in collaboration with the Community-Engen Joint Committee, has spread heart-warming holiday cheer to 84 children residing at St. Monica’s Children's Home Child and Youth Care Centre.

Engen's generous donation of Santa Boxes, brimming with delightful treats and toys, brightened the faces of the vulnerable children.

The Engen team visited St. Monica’s on 13 December 2023, distributing hampers containing LiquiFruit, Bottled Water, Simba Chips, KitKats, Toppers Biscuits, Toros Sweets, Lolly Pops, Christmas Crackers, and a toy for each child.

Sarisha Naidoo, Social Woker and Manager at St. Monica’s Children Home and Youth Care Centre, extended heartfelt gratitude to Engen for this gesture, emphasising the impact it had on the children.

“This valued contribution brought much joy and smiles to our children who have so little to hope for. Engen has truly made this Festive Season magical for them. The joy and excitement were palpable as the children unwrapped their surprises, creating unforgettable moments,” added Naidoo.

St. Monica’s Children's Home Child and Youth Care Centre serves as a haven for children aged 3 to 18, hailing from diverse religious, ethnic, and cultural backgrounds, most of whom have faced the hardships of being orphaned, abandoned, or deemed at risk in their home environments.

The Centre provides a nurturing environment where every child not only receives a formal education but also tailored classes to support their academic advancement.

Transportation to and from school, medical appointments, and court dates is ensured through dedicated vehicles and a driver.

Additionally, the children benefit from counselling provided by a dedicated social worker, working in collaboration with caregivers to create individualized action plans.

Dr James Xolani Nyawera, Engen's Head of Transformation and Stakeholder Engagement, expressed the company's commitment to community well-being, stating: “As a caring and inclusive company with 'heart,' we hope that this small gesture offers some comfort to the vulnerable children of St. Monica’s Children's Home Child and Youth Care Centre to help brighten up their Festive Season.”

Engen's support aligns seamlessly with their commitment and focus on community well-being, showcasing its dedication to making a positive impact on the communities they serve.

As a longstanding and committed member of the South Durban Basin community, Engen welcomes good faith collaboration in partnering with its neighbours in the best interests of all parties.

As such, Engen continuously engages openly and transparently with a broad representation of South Durban Basin community representatives through the Community-Engen Joint Committee to address matters of concern and to explore the co-creation of future opportunities.

The open Community-Engen Joint Committee is Engen’s primary platform of engagement with the South Durban Basin community, through which numerous community-led outreach initiatives aimed at uplifting and empowering the local community continue to be jointly and effectively spearheaded.
