Engen to Showcase its Sustainability and Social Impact Initiatives at Investing in African Mining Indaba 2024

Engen, a progressive energy and solutions partner dedicated to enriching lives for a sustainable future, is excited to announce its participation in the 2024 'Investing in African Mining Indaba,' taking place from February 5-8 at the Cape Town International Convention Centre (CTICC).

The Mining Indaba stands as a pivotal event fostering long-term investments in African mining, gathering influential speakers, industry professionals, policymakers, and stakeholders globally. The theme for this year, "Embracing the power of positive disruption: A bold new future for African mining," underscores the industry and Engen’s commitment to positive change and sustainability.

Under the theme, “Always Moving" Engen's exhibition reflects its dedication to supply chain excellence, service, and community upliftment. The interactive stand will feature a diverse range of quality products, showcasing Engen's Corporate Social Investment (CSI) projects, localisation, SMME and enterprise development as well as innovative mining solutions.

Drikus Kotze, Head of Engen’s Commercial Business, expressed enthusiasm about participating in Africa's largest mining event, stating, "We're excited to be part of the largest mining event in Africa, showcasing how we support supply chain and service excellence on the continent, coupled with our numerous CSI initiatives focused on uplifting the mining communities in which we operate."

Adds Kotze, “Engen's commitment extends beyond fuels and lubricants; it's about fuelling the dreams and aspirations of the communities it serves”.

According to Sharveen Maharaj, Engen’s Head of Lubricants, Engen's CSI initiatives, span across Education, Health Safety & Environment, Community Wellbeing, and support for People with Disabilities.

"Our CSI strategy aligns with our company's goals, the National Development Plan (NDP), and the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).”

Maharaj said the event was also an opportunity to showcase the strides the company has made in the sustainability arena, “as well as various enterprise development and social upliftment initiatives.”

Engen takes pride in recent CSI initiatives around the country specifically tailored for the mining communities in which the company operates. Some of these include:

  • In Moruleng, a beacon of hope was built in the form of brand-new ablution blocks, catering to both male and female students at a primary school.
  • Engen assisted two hundred Matric learners across 14 Secondary Schools in the Pilanesburg area by supporting a “boot camp” programme offering tutoring and study guides to upskill learners.
  • Engen joined hands with Mazitkama Municipality to support young West Coast footballers by sponsoring a youth empowerment tournament held at the Vredendal-North Sports Stadium, As a company that cares, Engen is committed to helping uplift the country’s youth through sports sponsorship and social investment.
  • In Rustenburg, Engen assisted 150 matriculants at Marikana High School prepare for their upcoming preliminary and final exams to help nurture talent and provide opportunities for growth and development.

Engen believes in the power of positive change, and these endeavours are a testament to its dedication to making the world a better place, one community at a time.
