Despite economic headwinds and infrastructure bottlenecks, turnkey crushing and quarrying solutions company Gold Rock Projects is expanding its product offering to the quarrying sector with the design and manufacture of an entry-level granite crushing plant for a greenfield project at a granite quarry, in eastern Nigeria.

The company is “uniquely positioned” to navigate the mining and quarrying sector, and will make a strategic choice to install a first plant at the quarry; this will enable the client to reduce upfront costs by starting crushing on a modest scale, says Gold Rock Projects executive director Bennie Botha.

This will also pave the way for future expansion at the mining operation and contribute to economic development in Nigeria.

“The plant was engineered to ensure its components could be shipped efficiently via . . . sea freight and road freight, maximising logistical efficiency,” adds Botha, noting that the company provides its quarrying clients with high-quality crushing equipment and solutions.

He further emphasises opportunities currently available to quarry operators through the South African government’s infrastructure development plans and projects, such as government’s Strategic Integrated Projects, which include upgrades to the N2 and N3 highways, and the Cato Ridge Logistics Hub, in KwaZulu-Natal.

This is indicative of the company’s trusted footprint in Africa, with current projects being progressed not only in South Africa and Nigeria, but also in Zambia, Zimbabwe, Malawi and Botswana.

Addressing Operational Cost Issues

Gold Rock Projects customises its capital equipment offering to suit the unique conditions across Africa, “ensuring durable and efficient machinery, as well as value-for-money solutions”, says executive director Michael Marsay.

“Selecting the correct equipment is of paramount importance. It involves a comprehensive evaluation of multiple factors such as the geological characteristics of the material, the scale of operations and the long-term operational goals,” he says.

The company’s equipment and associated solutions have been designed for the environmental and geographical factors a quarrying operation might face such as moisture levels, rock hardness and soil composition.

The company’s latest innovation, a tractor-drawn and -powered 750 X 500 jaw crusher – the MARSAY TM750P – can meet diverse operational needs, and boasts an efficient material processing capacity, with a feed size of up to 400 mm and output size down to 70 mm, all undertaken in a single pass.

“The MARSAY TM750P demonstrates the company’s commitment to practical, efficient and innovative solutions, tailored to diverse operational needs,” enthuses Marsay.

Further, Gold Rock Projects emphasises educating and training mine personnel on equipment use best-practice, ensuring the workforce is equipped with the skills to safely operate equipment and machinery while ensuring operational efficiency.

“While our crushers and systems are designed . . . to integrate cutting-edge solutions, such as telemetry systems for real-time monitoring and automation features, the initial focus remains on equipping teams with the necessary expertise,” he says.

“These systems serve as a stepping stone, ensuring the quarrying processes are smooth and efficient while laying a strong foundation for the integration of more sophisticated technologies in the future,” says Botha.

Gold Rock Projects’ crushing equipment is designed to run off lower kW motors than comparable crushers in its class, enabling clients to run off lower total installed power or generators.

The company caters to clients in remote locations by offering skid and trailer mounted crushing solutions from as little as 5 t/h to over 500 t/h, Botha concludes.
