"There can be no greater gift than that of giving one's time and energy to help others without expecting anything in return." – Nelson Mandela

Engen employees have once again made a difference in the communities to mark Nelson Mandela International Day on 18 July.

In partnership with Gift of the Givers, Engenites visited Nomzamo Community Hall to distribute blankets, hygiene packs and serve 1000 hot nutritious meals to Lwandle township residents in the Strand. Many of these residents were affected by the recent gale-force winds and flooding that wreaked havoc in the Western Cape last week.

Ali Sablay, Gift of the Givers Project Manager, expressed his gratitude for Engen’s continued support over the years. “We are proud to partner with Engen to mark this important day. Our longstanding partnership with Engen has been pivotal in ensuring that aid reaches those who need it most. Engen always heeds the call for help. Engen and Gift of the Givers visited the Lwandle township area last week to hand out essential supplies, including food packs, to assist those impacted by the severe Cape weather.”

Mandela Day commemorates the birth of South Africa’s first democratically elected president, Nelson Mandela. It calls on people across the planet to spend at least 67 minutes – one minute for every year Mandela spent fighting for justice, equality, and freedom – by doing good and serving those in need.

Engen CSI Manager, Olwethu Mdabula, highlighted the significance of the initiative.

“This year, Engen and its employees dedicated a day to giving back to disadvantaged communities. This initiative not only honours Mandela’s legacy but also demonstrates our commitment to social responsibility and fostering a spirit of unity and compassion among our employees to make a tangible impact on the community.

As a brand committed to enriching lives for a sustainable future, Engen is humbled to partner with Gift of the Givers and do our part this Mandela Day,” commented Mdabula.

She adds, “Everyone has the ability and the responsibility to change the world for the better, which is why we commend Team Engen for rolling up their sleeves and contributing their time and energy.”

Engen has partnered with Gift of the Givers since 2019, providing fuel support that enables swift and efficient disaster response operations.
