JSE-listed aluminium fabricator Hulamin has resumed production activities as of July 16, owing to an abatement in the recent domestic civil unrest in South Africa, which was centered in KwaZulu-Natal.

The company is headquartered in Pietermaritzburg – a town that experienced a significant flare up in cases of unrest.

As a result of the unrest, which saw rampant looting, violence and vandalism being inflicted on businesses and properties, Hulamin reports that it experienced only limited impact with the theft of a few small non-critical items and minor damages.

In a July 20 statement, the company notes that a “sense of calm prevails” as Pietermaritzburg gradually returns to normal.

Hulamin also states that it acknowledges and appreciates the efforts made by government and the security cluster in restoring law and order and extends its gratitude to employees and community members for their contribution and support to local clean-up operations.
