Hurry up with the 88 chosen projects and list them for all to see

The sentiment at last week’s virtual Presidential sustainable infrastructure development symposium was absolutely correct, namely that the South African economy needs to be propelled forward by the development of infrastructure, a world-proven method of taking a country's economy forward. But the repeated references to 88 chosen projects without providing a list of them left one up in the air.

The three potential funding routes outlined were also absolutely correct, the first being projects that private-sector companies should fund on their own, the second being projects that the public sector and the private sector should fund together, and the third being projects best left to the public sector alone.

The sentiment that the fullest of funding transparency was needed was also correct, as was the demand that those involved should hurry up so that best advantage can be taken of the amazing sentiment of national unity that the dreadful Covid-19 pandemic has brought about.
