Indaba set to welcome record number of delegates, app launched
FUTURE FOCUS This year's Investing in African Mining Indaba theme of future-proofing African mining is meant to catalyse stakeholders, both young and old, to embrace the future of mining on the continent
NETWORKING The launch of the Mining Indaba app will revolutionise the way attendees connect and engage
The 2025 iteration of the Investing in African Mining Indaba aims to showcase the thriving African mining industry and its readiness for investment, reports organiser Hyve Group.
Held from February 3 to 6, at the Cape Town International Convention Centre, the yearly event celebrates its thirtieth anniversary, with Hyve Group predicting it will welcome its largest number of global mining executives with over 8 000 delegates from upwards of 100 countries set to attend.
“Our audience will include more than 1 300 investors, 780 executives from major and midtier mining companies, 750 executives from junior mining companies, 100 senior government officials and 70 heads of State and ministerial delegations,” says Mining Indaba product director Kathryn Barnard.
As part of an initiative to foster change, Hyve Group has introduced three new networking and engagement opportunities to its attendees to increase their time and interactions at the Indaba, including an Investment Village, the opportunity to sponsor 2025 networking events, and also an app that was launched in January to gain a clearer understanding of the developments taking place at the event.
Barnard explains the Investment Village at Mining Indaba 2025 will provide an opportunity for investors and mining companies to connect and explore potential collaborations.
“With three distinct areas — the Investment Lounge, the Investment Theatre and the Explorers Showcase — the village will serve as a dynamic hub for networking and deal- making, enabling attendees to gain deep insights into the African mining landscape,” she enthuses.
For companies and investors looking to elevate their presence at Mining Indaba 2025, Barnard suggests becoming a sponsor for one of the event’s networking functions, offering enhanced visibility and the opportunity to align a brand with the most important conversations happening in African mining.
In addition, Barnard says the launch of the Mining Indaba app will “revolutionise” the way attendees connect and engage at the world’s largest mining investment conference.
“With features such as personalised agendas, messaging capabilities and interactive maps, the app streamlines the conference experience and ensures that participants make the most out of their time at the event,” she explains.
Time for a Turning Point
The African mining sector stands at a “crossroads, with enormous potential” for growth and transformation, says Mining Indaba content and strategic partnerships head Laura Nicholson.
However, she stresses that, in a world increasingly shaped by climate change, technological disruption and shifting geopolitical dynamics, the manner in which Africa’s mining industry will not only survive, but thrive, in the future, must be discussed.
“The answer lies in future-proofing: the process of building a mining sector that is resilient, competitive and aligned with global sustainability goals,” says Nicholson, adding that the theme for Mining Indaba 2025: ‘Future-Proofing African Mining, Today!’, emphasises the importance of this initiative, focusing on a multifaceted approach that spans innovation, governance, community engagement and more.
The opening panel at this year’s Indaba will introduce the theme and looks to uncover what are listed as the top five elements for success.
These elements include the role of government in creating an investment-friendly environment, attracting necessary capital for growth, ensuring community involvement and benefits, preparing the workforce for technological advancements and securing a sustainable market for minerals.
“The Mining Indaba 2025 is not just about business and industry development, it is about making a lasting social impact, and Hyve continues to demonstrate its commitment to social and community benefits, ensuring that the event leaves a positive legacy,” concludes Nicholson.
