JA Engineering: Pioneering mining excellence for nearly 40 years
Welcome to the world of JA Engineering, where innovation meets excellence. Founded in 1987, JA Engineering (JAE) has been a trailblazer in the mining equipment industry for nearly four decades. With over 300 dedicated employees, including over 25 engineers, JAE leads the charge in mining technology with a commitment to local manufacturing with a global footprint.
JAE’s headquarters, situated at 60 Atlas Road, in Boksburg, span over 20 000 m2 under roof—equivalent to four-and-a-half soccer fields. This facility serves as the epicentre of its operations, showcasing its dedication to innovation, quality and efficiency. Supporting its South African footprint, the company operates a service centre in Middelburg, in Mpumalanga, and a branch in Vryheid, in KwaZulu-Natal, ensuring accessibility across the country. Regionally, it conducts business in Zambia, Botswana, Swaziland and Zimbabwe, while actively exploring opportunities in Namibia, Lesotho and the Democratic Republic of Congo, aiming to comprehensively cover southern Africa. On a global scale, JAE’s reach extends through a branch in Rockhampton, in Australia, as well as an agent in India, strengthening its position as a global player in the mining industry.
As an original equipment manufacturer for underground soft rock mining equipment, JAE takes pride in over 80% local content in its manufacturing processes. Its comprehensive product suite includes continuous miners, shuttle cars, feeder breakers, battery scoops and roof bolters. Additionally, JAE provides surface mining solutions such as wheel motors, surface drill and dragline components, delivering quality and reliability to its customers.
In line with its commitment to excellence, JAE invests in cutting-edge technology, including state-of-the-art 5-axis CNC machines and horizontal boring mills. These advanced tools ensure the highest standards of quality, precision and efficiency in its operations. From humble beginnings to global recognition, JAE’s journey is marked by continuous innovation and a steadfast dedication to shaping the future of the mining industry.
In an exciting development, JAE has partnered with Czech Republic-based company FERRIT, which boasts over 30 years of experience in designing and manufacturing mining equipment. This strategic collaboration expands JAE’s expertise to include innovative solutions for the hard rock mining sector, complementing the company’s existing offerings for underground and surface operations.
FERRIT’s portfolio features battery- and diesel-powered machines for rail and suspended mining transportation, efficiently transporting heavy loads, mined materials and personnel over distances and inclines of up to 35º. The FERRIT product range also includes loaders, dumpers, utility vehicles and multi-purpose machines equipped with versatile superstructures. Through a dedicated R&D and engineering team, FERRIT develops customised solutions tailored to the specific needs of mining operations, driving productivity and safety.
Together, JA Engineering and FERRIT form a dynamic partnership that combines decades of engineering excellence and innovation. Sharing values of quality, safety and sustainability, they deliver comprehensive solutions to address the diverse needs of soft and hard rock mining for both surface and underground operations worldwide. By driving sustainable productivity, enhancing safety, and leveraging cutting-edge technology, JAE and FERRIT are shaping the future of mining with innovative engineering solutions and unmatched customer support.
Join them as they continue to innovate, inspire and lead the way in the mining industry.
