JDA appoints new contractor to restart Bramfischerville infrastructure construction
The Joburg Development Agency (JDA) has restarted the construction of roads and stormwater infrastructure in Bramfischerville Extension 12, in Soweto, after the contracts of two previous contractors were terminated as a result of poor performance.
The JDA says the construction of roads and stormwater infrastructure in the area is back on track after it appointed DKBP Construction, which will complete the remaining work.
JDA project implementation executive manager Siyabonga Genu says the safety of the public and all affected parties remains of the utmost importance to the agency. “We apologise for the inconvenience caused.”
The overall scope of works to be undertaken by DKBP Construction includes earthworks; layer works and paving (asphalt and pavers); the replacing of damaged kerbs; and the construction of sidewalks, signage and markings, new stormwater infrastructure and associated works; and attenuation dam and fencing.
The scope of work also includes protection of services and remedial work to existing stormwater services.
The JDA states that Bramfischerville is one of the focus areas for the City of Johannesburg in terms of addressing service delivery in marginalised areas.
In the JDA’s endeavour to create short-term job opportunities and employ community-based emerging contractors, 35 job opportunities have been created and five community-based emerging contractors have been given responsibilities as part of the project.
