Name of the project and location
Jomo Kenyatta International Airport expansion (JKIA), Kenya.

Project description
An international tender has been put out for the construction of a terminal passenger apron, taxiways, carparks and associated facilities at JKIA. The scope of work will cover an area of about 150 000 m2.

The extension of the passenger-terminal apron will include a total pavement area of about 100 000 m2, about 50 000 m2 of rigid concrete pavement, 50 000 m2 of block paving and 50 000 m2 of asphalt concrete paving.

Associated stormwater drainage works will also be included.

Other works are associated airfield lighting and extension of the fuel-hydrant system.

Value
The project will cost about $92,5-million. The World Bank has provided $9,2-million, while Kenya Airports Authority (KAA) has set aside $46,2-million.

The remainder will be financed through borrowing from local financial institutions or through a bond issue.

Duration
In September 2006, President of Kenya, Mwai Kibaki, officially commissioned the start of phase one of the expansion and modernisation works at the JKIA.
