Kenya Airways (KQ), the national flag carrier of the East African country, has announced that it has resumed flights from its hub in Nairobi to Bangkok, in Thailand. This service will be operated five times each week. KQ originally instituted its Bangkok service in 2003, but suspended it with the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020.

“[This] marks a moment of pride and readiness as we reintroduce our flights to Bangkok, Thailand,” affirmed KQ chief commercial and customer officer Julius Thairu. “This initiative underscores our proactive approach in expanding international routes, urging our passengers to embrace new and enriching travel experiences. Beyond its status as Thailand’s capital and most populous city, boasting a population of over ten-million, Bangkok is a vibrant hub offering a wide range of tourist, art and cultural attractions for our esteemed customers.”

The flights to Bangkok do not terminate there, but continue on to Guangzhou in China. Likewise, the return flights originate in Guangzhou and stop in Bangkok to also pick up passengers there. These flights are operated by KQ’s fleet of next-generation Boeing 787-8 airliners.

The flights from Nairobi to Bangkok are operated on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Sundays. They are coded KQ 886 and depart Nairobi at 23h45, arriving Bangkok at 13h30, the next day (local times in both cases). The flights, still coded KQ 886, then depart Bangkok at 14h40 local time and arrive in Guangzhou at 18h35, again local time.

The return flights from Bangkok are operated on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays, and are coded KQ 887. They depart Bangkok at 01h00 and arrive at Nairobi at 06h05, local times. (These flights, still coded KQ 887, originate in Guangzhou, and leave that city on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays at 21h40 local time, arriving in Bangkok at 23h35 local time.)

The reintroduction of the Bangkok service takes KQ’s current network to 42 destinations (35 of them in Africa, including both Cape Town and Johannesburg). The airline is a member of the Sky Team Alliance.
