Kenya Airways and Qatar Airways have entered into a codeshare agreement, that covers 19 destinations, the two carriers have announced. The codesharing will commence on this coming Sunday, October 26.

“We are excited to embark on this new chapter of our partnership with Qatar Airways,” enthused Kenya Airways chief commercial and customer officer Julius Thairu. “This partnership will significantly enhance connectivity, especially across Africa, the Middle East, and Asia, expanding our flight offerings, and opening up a world of new destinations for our customers to explore. Together with Qatar Airways, we are dedicated to providing our customers with easy access to a variety of destinations, paired with better connectivity and a seamless travel experience.”

Under the agreement, Kenya Airways passengers will be able to book codeshare tickets from Nairobi to Doha, and through Doha on to ten other Qatar destinations. Qatar Airways passengers will be able to do the same through Nairobi, to eight other destinations in the Kenya Airways network. (Qatar now operates three flights each day between Doha and Nairobi.)

“We are pleased with the significant progress made in just a few months since the partnership [was] initiated with Kenya Airways, and this enhancement is a testament to the collaborative efforts which further strengthen our presence in Kenya and the African continent,” highlighted Qatar Airways chief commercial officer Thierry Antinori. “The recent addition of Qatar Airways’ third daily flight to Nairobi also serves as another cornerstone of this partnership that is driven by strong demand from passengers seeking reliable and seamless connectivity.”

The codeshare agreement covers Kenya Airways destinations Abidjan, Accra, Addis Ababa, Lilongwe, Livingstone, Juba, Nampula and Victoria Falls. The Qatar Airways destinations covered are Bahrain, Colombo, Doha, Dhaka, Islamabad, Karachi, Kuala Lumpur, Malé, Muscat, Singapore and Tokyo (Narita). The list of destinations covered by the codeshare is planned to be increased in the future.

“The two airlines will continue to collaborate on codeshares, airport operations, lounges, sustainability and procurement,” they jointly stated. “Other future phases and areas of collaboration will include network development, cargo, aircraft maintenance, repair and overhaul.”
