KEPCO KPS offers fourth scholarship offer to South African universities

South Korea-based plant servicing company KEPCO KPS has granted study bursaries to 29 students studying at the University of Pretoria (UP) to the value of R1 836 546 in 2023.

 Owing to KEPCO KPS’ continuous commitment to its socio-economic responsibility to the community, the company has managed to donate over R4-million in the form of bursaries over a period of three years to benefit the community.

Korean Ambassador, Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to South Africa Chull-Joo Park, UP Dean of Humanities faculty Innocent Pakirayi, as well as other faculty heads and representatives, Kotra, KOAF and the Korean Association were among the special guests present at the handover.

Korean Ambassador, Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to South Africa Chull-Joo Park encouraged the parties to double their efforts for favourable relations between the two countries, saying he was “very delightful to contribute to the growth of students who are so passionate and motivated”.

KEPCO KPS not only managed to support individuals in the educational sector, but also created jobs for the working sector when it successfully secured a three-year contract with Eskom which started on October 1 , 2023. As a result of the new contract, KEPCO KPS is anticipating to undertake bigger projects, which in turn will assist KEPCO KPS to continue investing and impacting the lives of many people, as it has been doing over the years.

During the scholarship awards ceremony, UP spokesperson Kgomotso Legari expressed his gratitude, saying that the scholarships “are a great act [and] great service to the University as there are a number of students that are in dire need of financial assistance.” He was pleased that KEPCO had returned once again to donate bursaries to the students of the university.

KEPCO KPS MD Jungnam Lee encouraged the students saying, “KEPCO KPS is not merely providing financial support, we are investing in the future leaders, innovators and change-makers of our society. KEPCO KPS is placing its faith in your ability to make a positive impact, not only in your own lives but in the lives of those around you and in the world at large.”

"KEPCO KPS is grateful for the trust bestowed upon us to fulfill our work mandate for Eskom and to collaborate in improving lives,” Lee concludes.
