As South Africa grapples with energy security and environmental challenges, engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contractor Lesedi is positioning itself at the forefront of sustainable infrastructure development. With a track record stretching back to 2001, the EPC contractor is active across all power generation sectors, from nuclear and thermal to renewables, as well as industrial projects, particularly in the platinum mining sector.

Lesedi executive for business development Shane Pereira shared his insights into the company’s mission and ambitions during a recent interview at Enlit Africa 2025, in Cape Town.

“We execute turnkey engineering contracts aimed at improving power plant performance and reducing environmental impact,” he said. “Whether we’re working with Eskom’s coal fleet or helping platinum mines curb emissions, our focus is firmly on sustainability and responsible engineering.”

A regular participant at industry events like Enlit Africa, Lesedi views conferences as strategic opportunities to shape dialogue, connect with original equipment manufacturers, financiers and government institutions to stay ahead of regulatory and localisation trends.

“We see ourselves as thought leaders,” said Pereira. “Our role is not just to build, but to integrate cutting-edge technologies and help align South African projects with global environmental standards.”

Among the technologies Lesedi is helping to deploy are advanced electrostatic precipitators and systems that reduce nitrogen oxide, sulfur oxide and carbon dioxide emissions, solutions that are either new to the South African market or increasingly vital to compliance across the region.

Looking ahead, Pereira emphasises the importance of collaboration. “These events are about more than networking. They’re about building momentum towards achievable, shared goals. The energy transition isn’t something we can tackle in isolation, it takes commitment from all stakeholders.”

In a sector where innovation and environmental responsibility must go hand in hand, Lesedi is proving that experience and forward thinking can light the way.
