In addition to geared motors, frequency inverters, controls and software, SEW-EURODRIVE South Africa has added electrical control panels to its offering.

Company business development electronics manager Willem Strydom says there is a growing preference toward dealing directly with original equipment suppliers (OEMs) as a single source of supply can reduce costs and risk, and simplify the supply chain.

“The market in many industries, from mining to agriculture, has made it clear that they can no longer afford ‘middlemen’ in the procurement process,” says Strydom. “Companies want to deal with one supplier, preferably a specialised OEM who has a depth of expertise and can stand behind their solutions with the necessary support.”

SEW-EURODRIVE says it has responded to this trend by adding complementary products to its existing range, which it says ‘closes the loop’ for its customers.

The company’s in-house engineering team designs control panels for specific applications where its drive technology is being applied and can also provide the required programming. The local assembly of the units enables industries to support the local economy and helps secure supply chains against possible disruption.

The panels and enclosures are suited to a range of application requirements, including floor mounts or wall mounts, with ingress protection ratings up to IP65. The panels can also be supplied for containerised solutions such as e-houses, which are widely used in industrial applications across Africa and on remote mining sites.
